What’s the link between apprenticeships and Setuwelt?

In Germany, an apprenticeship (Ausbildung) is a paid vocational training program combining classroom learning with hands-on work in a real company, typically lasting 2.5 to 3 years. It often serves as a launchpad for long-term career growth in Germany.

Setuwelt’s scholarship program offers Indian youth a unique opportunity to access Germany’s apprenticeship program. If selected as a Setuwelt scholar, you’ll receive support in learning German, securing a placement with a German employer, and preparing for life and work in Germany through our mentorship and integration support.

What is the Setuwelt application process?

The full application process for the Setuwelt scholarship program consists of the following stages:

  1. Expression of Interest

  2. Detailed Application

  3. Interview Selection

  4. Final Stage (case-by-case; format may vary)

Do you meet the eligibility criteria?

This pilot round is open to applicants who meet all of the following criteria:

  • Indian national, currently residing in India

  • Have completed at least Class X (10th grade) and hold a valid certificate. Class XII (12th grade) completion is preferred but not required

  • Have already completed A2-level German or are currently enrolled in an A2-level German course

We especially encourage applications from youth who come from modest or low-income backgrounds.

Not sure about your German level?

This application round is only open to candidates who are currently studying or have completed German at the A2 level. If you’re not sure of your level, we recommend taking one of these quick German self-assessment tests before applying:

Sometimes placement tests don’t reflect your true ability. If you believe your German meets the eligibility criteria or you’re a fast language learner, we strongly encourage you to apply. However, if you have no prior knowledge of German, please do not apply at this time.

How can you start learning German?

With time and effort, it’s absolutely possible to learn German — even from scratch. We currently require applicants to have some German knowledge, and deeply value candidates who take the initiative to start learning on their own.

For highly motivated learners, we’ve put together a guide of completely free resources to help you get started. Click here to access it.
